Unlikely Bond: Orangutan Adopts Tiger Cubs in Heartwarming Tale of Compassion

 

In a remarkable display of interspecies compassion, an orangutan has captured hearts around the world by adopting and caring for three abandoned tiger cubs. The extraordinary event took place at a wildlife rehabilitation center in Indonesia, where both species were being cared for after being orphaned or displaced due to habitat loss.

The orangutan, a male around seven years old, was originally rescued as an infant himself and has since shown an unusual affinity for nurturing other animals. When the tiger cubs—each just a few weeks old—were brought in, caretakers noticed the orangutan immediately taking interest. He began mimicking the behaviors of the human staff, feeding the cubs from bottles, cradling them, and even playfully grooming them.

I don't know how she will successfully raise 5 cubs on her own, especially with an injured leg. She's walking on the leg she's not limping so I'm guessing it's just a flesh wound. As long as she is able to lick it clean that will stop infection, it's a wonderful sign she's walking on that leg normally. Usually 5 cubs one or two die by I HOPE they all make it, this Mum has done a FANTASTIC job so far Bless her 😇☯️ I wish them all the best ❤️

Talking to tigers is one of the most fascinating experiences when observing these majestic big cats. They are known for their powerful presence and striking appearance, but what many people don’t realize is just how much personality they have — especially through their range of sounds. Big cats like tigers can produce some pretty weird, unique, cute, and even scary noises that reveal their mood, feelings, and sometimes even their thoughts.

Most of this footage was shot during my time working at Big Cat Rescue from 2008 to 2014. During that period, I spent countless hours observing and interacting with these incredible animals. I loved chatting with the cats — well, not literally talking, but mimicking their sounds and understanding the messages they shared through their vocalizations. Tigers can roar loudly, purr softly, chuff gently, or emit strange, guttural grunts. Some sounds are playful and adorable, like a trilling or soft mewing, which suggests contentment or curiosity. Others can be surprisingly loud and intimidating, especially when they’re warning or asserting dominance.

But as you can see in the footage, some of the tigers simply prefer their privacy. They may choose to silence their calls or turn away, emphasizing that despite their majestic stature, they are still wild animals with boundaries and personal space. Respecting their wishes is crucial in working with these animals, even if we are fascinated by their vocal expressions.

Talking to tigers — whether through observing their sounds or simply listening and respecting their moods — offers a rare glimpse into their world. It’s a reminder of how complex and emotionally rich these big cats are, and why conservation and respectful interaction are so important for their survival and well-being.
